Choices

by G. Mayhew

Every day of our lives we are faced with the prospect of making choices. Each time a choice is made, there is a consequence attached. The Bible is replete with examples of choices made and the results of those choices.

In the book of Genesis and chapter 13, we read of a man called Lot. He was given the opportunity to choose a dwelling place for him and his family, and thinking only of material things, selected the well-watered plain of Jordan. In so doing, he pitched his tent toward the wicked city of Sodom.

What a poor choice! The next time we read of Lot, he was dwelling in Sodom, and was carried away captive by the kings of the Mesopotamia region when they attacked Sodom and Gomorrah. Rescued by his uncle Abraham, he chose to return to Sodom, and soon held a position of authority, for “he sat in the gate of Sodom” (Genesis 19:1). It was only by God’s grace that he was removed from the city by angelic beings before its destruction, but in the process he lost his wife. His poor choices eventually led to an incestuous relationship with his daughters.

What choices have you made today? In making those choices, have you sought Divine guidance so that you might make the right ones? What about the most important, life-changing choice you can make? Have you chosen the Lord Jesus as your Savior? Have you recognized and confessed that you are a sinner, and asked Him to forgive you of your sins?

The Bible declares that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Forgive- ness becomes a necessity, and the Word of God says “that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins.” A choice must be made, and that choice determines your eternal destiny. Will you choose Christ?
